I'm fairly positive Kim and I were sisters in a former life. I met her at a videography conference where she was hired to perform as a musician. We hit it off. We spent that week jumping into pools fully dressed, biking around Cancun, and promising to stay in touch. And we did. Kim was the ninja photographer at my surprise proposal in NYC and I was invited to film her wedding to Brandt a few months ago with Chasen. Pretty cool. But, it gets cooler.
Brandt is also a musician who is part of a band I've been licensing music from since probably 2012. Brandt and Kim's music has been the soundtrack to about 30 of our films throughout the years. I never would have thought I'd someday meet them and shoot their wedding. Guess whose music provides the score for this highlight film? Yup. Kim's instrumental version of "Blue" is the first song and "Snowy Shores" is the second song by Dream City Orchestra, a musical collective of composers/artists of which Brandt is a member.
Wondering how these two musical geniuses met up? Here's their story:
It all began in 2007 when Brandt first met Kim at college in Dallas. No more than casual acquaintances during school, they reunited a few years after their graduation, when a mutual friend invited Brandt to Kim’s show. Kim asked Brandt if he would play guitar for her shows around Dallas as he was known for being a talented musician. As a result of joining their creative forces, they quickly became good friends.
In 2013, after years of wanderlust spent between Pennsylvania, Texas, and California, Kim returned home to Pennsylvania to be closer to her family. Brandt shortly thereafter moved to Austin, and the two had never been further apart. However, Brandt and Kim kept in touch, and the phone calls and video chats grew from quick check-ins to lengthy 4-hour, ‘you hang up first’ events. Their friendship steadily drew their hearts closer, and Brandt knew that he would one day marry Kim. He eventually flew to Pennsylvania to ask Kim out on their first date.
A year of long distance dating led Brandt to move only 2 houses down the street from where Kim lived in PA. A few short months later, he proposed to her on “their” snowy park bench in February 2018 on the one-year anniversary of their first date.
We love you Kim and Brandt!
